JAKE BERGEVIN BIO
Jake
Bergevin joins the ranks of many successful hyphenates as a singer-trumpet
player residing in the Seattle area. Like Diana Krall, Harry Connick,
Jr., or more specifically Chet Baker or Louis Prima, he has continued to
refine his craft in both arenas and continues to play as headliner and
sideman mostly in his native Seattle area.
The new CD, Holding Back the Dawn, features mysterious and moody ballads and bossa novas with a generous dose of vocalese and soaring solos from Jake as well as saxophonist Saul Cline. Fans of Chet Baker, Kurt Elling, Mark Murphy and Jon Hendrix will enjoy the fresh arrangements as well as a few original compositions.
Holding Back the Dawn is a very romantic, thoughtful and extremely musical performance. Every song is treated with the Tender Loving Care that it deserves by this wonderful group of musicians. Jake has a lovely voice aside from playing excellent trumpet — and cares about the 'art of story telling' through both instruments. His song choice is both lovingly familiar and refreshingly original — You will love this album — put it on and dance with the closest person around.
—Karrin Allyson, Grammy nominated vocalist
His
first recording as a leader, My Name is Jake, available at CDBaby.com,
is a combination of sensitive jazz vocals and romping party/dance music.
Conceived as a partial tribute to his heroes Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles,
Jake puts his own stamp on some classic tunes and demonstrates his crooning,
blues shouting, scat-singing and trumpet solo skills in fine fashion.
The CD features some of the Seattle areas finest jazz players as
members of the Javatown Swing Orchestra. Solos by trumpeter Jim Sisko,
tenor sax-man Travis Ranney, guitarists Greg
Fulton and Milo Petersen, and bassists RJ Whitlow and Geoff Cooke
are some of the instrumental highlights on this recording. The package
is rounded out by a beautiful presentation with design by Steve
Jakobsen and photos by jazz enthusiast and critically acclaimed photographer Daniel Sheehan.
Jake has played performances at many of Seattles most prestigious
venues and events, including the Showbox Theatre, Paramount Theatre, Bumbershoot,
Folklife Festival, five years running at the Ellensburg Jazz
in the Valley Festival plus hundreds of private events at venues like
the Westin Hotel, Four Seasons Olympic Hotel, Hotel W, Columbia Winery, Hollywood
School House, The
Dome Room, Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, and many more. In demand as
a private party entertainer, his groups have played for Microsoft, Bellevue
Art Museum, AT&T, Eddie Bauer, the Savoy
Swing Club, Central Washington Universitys Swing Cats and many
more.
Jake Bergevin is proud to be the Vice President of the Washington
Chapter of International
Association for Jazz Education and has continued to share his passion
for music with many successful students through the music mentoring in
both public and private teaching settings.
